The Features
“Love Is Golden”
Live @ 12th & Porter
November 8th, 2003
This song was one of the more polarizing Features songs when it debuted in November 2003. Features songs rarely have such a dark driving force behind them and the perversely beautiful chorus claiming that “love is golden” sure doesn’t help lighten the mood. “Golden” and “Foundation’s Cracked” were the first two songs debuted after the Exhibit A-era ended (which was when “Harder To Ignore” debuted, so you can follow my weird logic) and marked a drastic change in the band’s song structure. The simpler pop gems of yore had evolved into post-punk masterpieces.
“Love Is Golden” debuted on November 7th, 2003 during the all-request show at 12th & Porter. It was then played with much more efficiency and urgency during the second part of their two-night-stand at 12th & Porter on November 8th. It’s interesting to note that “Love Is Golden” debuted with mostly complete and possibly final lyrics. “Love Is Golden” was regularly played at Features shows from November 2003 until April 2004. The song then popped up a couple more times during 2004 until it was played for the last time during the band’s trip overseas in December of that year. The song has become another of the band’s buried treasures, hopefully waiting to be dug up again when the time is right.
Yep, this Tumblr now includes pirate metaphors.
