Live @ 12th & Porter
November 8th, 2003This is the last bootleg of “Some Way Some How” that I have, but it was not the last time it was played. That honor belongs to the performance of the song at Nashville hip-all-ages-skate-park/venue Rocketown on September 13th, 2004.

“Some Way Some How”
Live @ The Boro
May 2nd, 2002Here’s the second time “Some Way Some How” was ever played, and it shows. Okay, that sounds harsh. Not in a bad way! As in, Matt Pelham actually calls the song a “work in progress.” It takes a little while for them to get the song going, but once they do you hear almost fully formed greatness. Such a powerhouse of a song. Also note the guitar solo that would later get removed.

“Some Way Some How”
Krampf Sessions (2002)Simultaneously lurching and euphoric, “Some Way…” some how managed to become a fan favorite during its brief lifespan. And that “some how” part is jokes, because this song is a no-brainer in terms of how awesome it is. It is instantly catchy, features a truly killer breakdown and shines the spotlight on Parrish’s keyboards (that whirling lava lamp of boozy keyboards at the top of the verses) and Roger’s bass line (the search-and-destroy creeping at the end of the verses). It’s really a quintessential Features song, one that’s by-the-numbers as far as Features songs go. And I don’t mean that in a bad way, because when it comes to the Features, those are some really great numbers.
“Some Way Some How” debuted on March 16th, 2002. The song originally had an insane guitar solo, along the lines of “Stagecoach,” before evolving into the version the band committed to tape (they still used tape in 2002, right?). The song firmly belongs to the “Buffalo Head” generation of songs, which counts “Blow It Out,” “Idea of Growing Old” and “The Damage Is Done” amongst its number. “SWSH” was played semi-regularly from it’s debut in spring 2002 to around April 2004. It was never a regular along the lines of “Thursday” or “The Way It’s Meant To Be,” but it had a healthy life. The song fell out of favor the year it was released on the band’s debut album Exhibit A; it was played only 4 documented times in 2004. To my knowledge it hasn’t been played live since 2004.

This section of each entry will now just be a link to the song’s page which can also be accessed through the Song List. This is because I was having to go back to old posts of songs and edit them to link to new posts of songs, which is a pain and a half. So now, when I post one of the other 10 versions of this song that I have, I won’t have to come back to this entry 10 times and edit it 10 times to include those links. Now you can just click on “Some Way Some How” on the Song List and see’em all. Easy!
